Im sitting here in Herloe Kopitiam, Malim..just checking it out...Looks decent and stuff with a Sushi Bar of its own. But its a tad noisy with it sitting near the main road. I was looking forward on sitting upstairs but I think they close that section during the day. *puff*
So me and my friends decided to watch a movie yesterday at the newly opened GSC in AEON JJ Bandaraya Melaka. Firstly, I think I much prefer the setting in DP because there, they have this full floor all to themselves..while in JJ as u ride up the escalator, BOOM, there the enter route is waiting. The counter next to it. So the queuing business happens there on the sidelines. Its a bit..should I say..PUBLIC? too public. Its somehow a bit extra embarassing to bump into someone you know. Its a medic student stigma. "should't u be studying? tsk3"
(By the way Hariz is beside me *staring daggers* at me for telling him not to termenung je )
So back to the review. I TOTALLY suggest u go see it. 9/10
I know some ppl are like "Oh no not another Steven-spielberg-Alien-invasion thingy"
But its actually quite the opposite. Well of course its abt aliens. & Invasion. hmmm...
*rubs chin & squints eyes*
Suprisingly with depth. It has a relatable family value. And a sense of humour making u LOL.
and yeah it even brought..a tear or two..or three..or maybe four...*cough2* i swear it wasnt me
So this is coming from someone who slept midway watching War of The Worlds.
Sorry Dakota, ur lil sis got a way better role in a way better movie.
But kudos for scoring(by that,i meant act with) Tom cruise!! *clap2*
The main actors here are basically just kids, but they did such an awesome job!!
Plus with witty lines.....So home run!!!!
P/s : Spoiler alert. Im giving a synopsis.
Joe Lamb played by Joel Courtney(who looks like Courtney Cox's son in Cougar Town-tinier version) just lost his mother through an awful accident at the factory she works in. So his father, deputy sherif , has to step up of actually being the parent in which t/o the movie u can see he's lacking in responsibilty. Charles, his best friend since kindergarden is a director-in-the making. Currently with his new project to enter some festival,is a zombie based film which Joe is the make-up artist + props. The film crew, which consists of Cary( camera & fire power), Martin (main actor-lloks lyk Matt Damon) & Preston (pelakon tmbahan-fooney one liners!) are also his bffs. FYI..their bickerrings are friggin HI-La-RioUS!!
And then there's Alice Daniard, aka elle fanning. The main actress. Both for this movie & Charles project. Hee. (note: love triangle brewing ere)
She is the daughter to Jack Daniard, who used to work at the factory with Joe's mother.
I find Alice very captivating in not the obvious way. She seems so real for such a newbie. Such rawness in her acting. I guess it runs in the family.
Near the end u find out that Joe's mother had voluntarily covered Jacks shift at the factory because he was to drunk to come in when the accident happened. Hence, the tense r/ship btwn the two families.
Oh btw, (sheessh, almost forgot the alien part) during filming a scene at the train stop at midnight, they witnessed a truck vs train crash. The truck driven was by their science teacher had suddenly come out of nowhere and blocked the train infront causing the whOOoollle thing to slip and crash as well. (note: really cool cgi & sound effects)
Alas, the escape of the freaky looking alien.
(seyesly, couldnt u of made him look a wee bit cuter please mr.director jj abrams sir?)
Turns out science dude used to work with the air force wit this Nellack guy(bad guy of the movie) and had together researched and experimented on this alien + space craft the govt had come upon but he was later relieved of his duties because of his belief that they should just release the alien because it means no harm. You'll understand how he knows this later.
So this alien(i wished he had a name), who apparently is just a traveller, accidently crashed on earth, and desperatly wants to go back but the US govt wont let him. Go figure. *rolls eyes*
His space ship, made of thousands of white rubic-cube looking things were confiscated from him, and he, thrown in the dungeon.
So now, a newly born refugee, he's collecting all things metally, magnetty and is absorbing the towns electricity and power in the hope of rebuilding a new ship.Aaaannndd ~ He succeeeds!! *woot2*
And btw, apparently when u touch him, or he, u, there's this telepathic connection where u know what he thinks and feels and vice versa.(note: the science dude) He kidnapped some of the towns ppl including Alice, so the kids try to free her which basically leads to the dads uniting *wee*
(honestly this was the only part where I went bipolar, confused either to cry or giggle at the mild cheesiness of the touching reunion of the four in the end.)
So everything intertwined, it was a very lovely movie. Worth my student price ticket.
Kudos.
